Colston Bassett is set in the Vale of Belvoir in the middle of the beautiful Nottinghamshire countryside. Thirty minutes from Nottingham and the nearby county of Leicestershire. We are pleased to share the following local places of interest, businesses and services.
Situated within its own delightful 8-acre rural setting, Millfield has 40 places for children aged two to five years old. It has extensive indoor and outdoor facilities. The nursery helps children become independent, self-motivated and confident. Children are encouraged to progress at their own rate of development through the Early Years Foundation Stage and into Key Stage One where appropriate. Many of the future Reception children for Colston Bassett Preparatory School currently attend Millfield. Visit Millfield's website
The Vale First Responders (VFR) are volunteer members of the community who are trained to respond to emergency calls through the 999 system in conjunction with the East Midlands Ambulance Service. The Responders are trained to provide basic life support and defibrillation to patients in rural areas within the Vale of Belvoir, where distance may delay the prompt arrival of an ambulance. The VFR save many lives on a regular basis, and are always looking for supporters and volunteers to become Responders. Visit the VFR website
Colston Bassett Local History Group has an active membership pursuing a range of projects relating to the varied and extensive history of the village, which can trace its origins back to Saxon times. The school has been at the heart of the community since it was established as a Church of England School in 1872. One of the group's current projects is to develop a pictorial history of the school since it's inception and anyone interested in contributing material can do so via the contact information on the website. Set in the idyllic village of Colston Bassett in the Vale of Belvoir, the Martin's Arms is a spectacular Grade 2 listed building. Situated at the corner of a quiet leafy cul-de-sac by an old cross, the Inn encapsulates all that is best in an English pub. But to call it the quintessential English hostelry does not do it justice. Surrounded by ancient trees, in estate parkland with National Trust land just a stones throw away, the Martin's Arms is a welcome retreat at any time of the year. Visit the Martin's Arms website
